Frumil (Frumil)

General information

Frumil is a diuretic (water pill) used to treat fluid retention and high blood pressure. It contains two active ingredients, amiloride hydrochloride and furosemide. It works by causing the kidneys to increase the amount of salts, such as potassium and sodium, that are filtered out of the blood and into the urine.

Directions

Take Frumil exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you are treated for high blood pressure use of Frumil requires several weeks as it does not treat hypertension but just keeps it under control.

Precautions

Before taking Frumil you should talk with your doctor if you have low volume of fluid in their blood (hypovolaemia), high levels of potassium in the blood (hyperkalaemia), very low levels of sodium in the blood (hyponatraemia), diabetes, kidney or liver failure, allergy to furosemide or amiloride.

Contraindications

Furosemide is contraindicated in patients with anuria, hypovolaemia and in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to furosemide. Not recommended for children under 18 years of age. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Tell your doctor about all other medications you use, especially: ACE inhibitors (captopril), ciclosporin, potassium salts, tacrolimus, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (indometacin, ibuprofen), angiotensin II receptor antagonists (losartan). Interaction between two medications does not always mean that you must stop taking one of them. Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking.

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
