Premarin (Estrogens, Conjugated)
General information
Premarin is prescribed for treatment of menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal irritation vaginal dryness, to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It works regulating female reproductive system development and functions, formation of female secondary sex characteristics and decreasing bone resorption of Ca2 + in menopause, prevents involution of the genitals.
Directions
It is recommended to take the medicine as it was prescribed by your doctor. Take it with a glass of water with or without food. Do not exceed your recommended dose.
Precautions
Pregnant women and persons under 18 y.o. can't use the Premarin. Be careful using the medicine for long-term treatment. It can increase risk of breast cancer, endometrial hyperplasia, heart attack, or stroke.
Contraindications
Pregnant and breastfeeding women, patients with hypersensitivity to the medicine, genital or uterine bleeding, thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disease can't use Premarine. Patients with thrombophlebitis, thrombosis or thromboembolism; family hyperlipoproteinemia, pancreatitis, endometriosis, gallbladder disease, severe liver failure, jaundice, hepatic porphyria, leiomyoma, hypercalcemia associated with bone metastases caused by breast cancer, underactive thyroid, porphyria, endometriosis, asthma should be careful using the medicine.
Possible side effect
Side effects can be the following: hives, rash, swelling face and tongue, chest pain or heavy feeling, sudden numbness or weakness, abnormal vaginal bleeding, migraine headache, confusion, jaundice, swelling in hands, ankles, or feet. If you experience any of the side effects listed above contact your doctor.
Drug interaction
Premarin can interact with blood thinners (warfarin), barbiturates, rifampin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, griseofulvin, St. John's wort, erythromycin, ketonazole, ritonavir and primidone.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. The overdose symptoms are vomiting, nausea, and vaginal bleeding.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature, between 15-30 C (59-86 F).
